Grant Writing 101
March 17, 2008:

Start time: 9 a.m.
This six-hour workshop will provide an overview of the components of a grant application. Each section of a grant proposal will be defined and described in detail. Information will be provided on writing a grant application to maximize reviewer points. In addition, the workshop will focus on what is “collaboration” and how to establish community partnerships. Participants will learn tips on what makes for successful partnerships and collaborations.
The workshop will:
1. Identify each section of a grant proposal
2. Provide guidance on how to “read between the lines” of a request for proposal
3. Provide an overview of the grant review process
4. Provide specific tips to write a grant to be “reviewer friendly”.
PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES: The participant will:
1. Understand what is required to completely provide information for each component
2. Present information in an organized manner
3. Be able to understand the components of a Request For Proposal for grant applications
4. Learn how to conduct grants research on the internet
5. Understand the grant review process, including how grant panels are selected and the process is followed to review an application
6. Understand how to format proposals to maximize reviewer points.

Joani Sarkiss, president of J. Sarkiss & Associates, has over 11 years of experience in writing successful grant applications to Federal, state and local agencies and foundations, with more than $80 million secured for community programs. J. Sarkiss & Associates provides comprehensive organization and grant development services to nonprofits and government agencies across the
Joani has developed education and fitness, workforce and job training, small business assistance, transportation and health access programs. She serves as a Federal grant panel chair and reviewer for the US Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Community Services, Administration for Children and Families, and Family and Youth Services Bureau. She also serves as a Federal grant reviewer for the US Department of Education’s Office of Post Secondary Education and Office of Safe and
Federal grant reviewer for the US Department of Commerce, Corporation of National and Community Service, and the Beaumont Foundation. Ms. Sarkiss frequently conducts seminars on all aspects of grant writing.
Ms. Sarkiss earned a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the
